Here is a picture of Bubby's quilt! The blue area actually says his name, but for privacy reasons I marked it out.

Late night last night

Well, I did not get to the walking foot last night, but I got other stuff done!!!!! I decided on a pattern for the Paddington Bear quilt and got all but the inner border cut. Since the outer border is a real cute print, I am going to wait on the inner border until I can see exactly what it needs to be for the outer border to look right. I am doing a snowball/hourglass layout in a 5 X 5 design with the snowballs making the big X. The snowballs are the Paddington Bears on yellow, fussy cut (obviously :-)) with green corners. The hourglasses are blue and red. I'm not sure which I'll have turned out yet. Whichever one I have turned out so that it touches the inner border will be the other color. So the inner border is either red or blue. The outer border is a Paddington Print from the strip. It is Paddington Bears on light blue. The backing is the yellow Paddington Outline print. I started marking the diagonal line on my green squares that I'm using for the snowball corners, but that's as far as I got.

I also cut and pieced the backing for my mom's quilt.

I also decided to make an I spy quilt for a very special little boy who just turned one and a baby quilt for his little brother who will be coming any day now. I hope to get those done in July and mailed off by the end of July.

Well, that's all for now!

Change of Plans

So while being gone a day and a half from work gives me lots of sewing time, it also puts me really behind, which means I'm working late tonight :-(. I'm planning on staying here unitl I get me desk cleared off with everything that can be done tonight or 6:30 PM, which is the latest I can stay and still make it to church with time to breathe :-). Service actually starts at 7:00, but with traffic, parking, walking in, and getting my choir book ready, I need to allow at least 15 minutes. Plus I like to say hello to others.

The good news? I picked up a walking foot at lunch! I hope to use it tonight after the service. I should probably be smart and make a little quilt sandwich to practice on, but you know me....impatient, impatient, impatient. We'll see how it goes, lol.

If I can't get the walking foot going tonight, I hope to cut up Paddington. I might even get that pieced tonight if all goes well. I might make a similar pattern to the train quilt I've just finished. Maybe being the keyword here. But I did like how the train quilt ended up being, so we'll see. I promise to post pictures ASAP! I need to post one still back from the blue and white flannel one from last winter as well as Bubby's and the train quilt. If I think about it I will take pictures tonight of my works in progress I'm working on. That is, if my camera is cooperating. I may need to charge the batteries.

bye bye for now,

Tuesday's Accomplishments

Well, I did not get anything accomplished that I had planned on doing Monday night. Instead I was asleep fighting off a virus. I had to take Tuesday off, but was well enough to sew :-). I pressed, cut, pieced, and basted the railroad quilt top. It is ready to be quilted. I called the sewing machine store about a Walking Foot this morning and will be able to pick one up this afternoon. It's $75!!!! Luckily I've got a 25% off coupon that the lady said I could use and my mom said she'd buy it for me for an upcoming present. Sweet :-).

I hope to get started quilting it tonight and finish it on Friday. I won't be doing much tonight as I've got church and tomorrow I have to run around all evening. So between a few hours tonight and all Friday evening I should be able to finish quilting it. Then I will just need to attach the binding and add a label. I'm thinking for doing a series of generic labels for the church babies unless I'm close to the mom. Something along the lines:
“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD” Psalm 127:3a
Stitched with Prayers for ___________. You are a special gift from God.

Made by ____________, (date), (location)

Besides quilting the train quilt, I hope to get the Paddington Bear quilt top made so I can machine quilt that one next week. I also need to get mom's backing pieced so I can get that one quilted in July.

Coming up on the quilt schedule:
June baby boy - quilt/bind/label
July baby boy - press/cut/piece/baste/quilt/bind/label
(Christmas) Mom's lap throw - piece backing/baste/quilt/bind/label
Oct baby girl (1) - finish hand quilting
Oct baby girl (2) - decide on pattern/fabric/wash/press/cut/piece/baste/quilt/bind/label
Oct baby unknown - holding pattern until known
Jan baby unknown (1) - holding pattern
Jan baby unknown (2) - holding pattern
(Bday) Mom's placemats - holding pattern until Summer baby quilts finished
(Christmas) Dad's bed quilt - faux log cabin pattern, scrappy, need to cut F.Q./scraps into strips
(Christmas) Uncle's Bed quilt - need to decide on pattern
(Bday) Sister - placemats/pot holders/table runner - "roosters/country"
(Christmas) Sister - lap throw - haven't a clue

I need to check with my Aunt to see if my little cousins play with dolls and which size(s) - I'd like to make them each a little doll quilt for their bdays (late this summer). For Christmas I might make each of them something else. I don't know.

Oh, and my mom mentioned a real cute class she's interested in doing. It's to make a little roadway playmate that folds up into a backpack. That's in August. That will be for nephew (will mom's will anyway, mine will have to be for the special baby menioned in all my first posts :-D) He'll be two soon!!!!)

Adios,

Weekend Accomplishments

Well my sister loved Bubby's quilt. She said she can't let his daddy see or else he'd want it for himself. I'm really glad she liked it. She had no idea it was coming. Bubby was good staying with us, but then again, he's always good :-). Okay, so I just see it that way because he's my nephew, but hey, I'm supposed to be biased ;).

I did get to stop by the store for fabric. I purchased some of the Paddington Bear line. I got it washed at Mom's too. Tonight I plan to iron and cut, and I hope to piece the top tomorrow. That will let me baste it Wednesday. I need to baste Mom's quilt this week too - I got her fabric washed over the weekend. I did get some work done on the purple & white quilt :-D.

So here are my goals for tonight:
1. Press Paddington Bear fabric.
2. Cut Paddington Bear fabric.
3. Press Mom's backing fabric.
4. Cut backing fabric and piece together.
5. Baste Mom's quilt.

That's it for tonight: ironing, cutting, and basting :-) with a tiny bit of sewing to make the back.

Completely Not Quilting

Right now I am hooked up to the platelet/plasma machine at the blood center. They are doing a double platelet donation. It is really hard to type one handed, left hand to boot. I am thinking of all the quilting I am going to do tonight. Maybe. It depends on how well I can bend my arm. I at least will be able to wash mom's fabric and baste her quilt. I also need to wrap Bubby's quilt up for him. I'm gonna tease my sister and give her a dummy "I love Bubby" present, wrapped up all pretty in a bag or box big enough for the quilt. I'll act all surprised when only the small board book is in the bag and then be like, "you know, there should have been something else there," and then pull out another present. My mom and I will be keeping Bubby overnight :-D.

Well, I'm tired of typing one handed so that's all for now. I think I'll surf the web some.

Goals for the Weekend

I'll be pretty busy this weekend, so I won't get much quilting done. I'll be much too busy watching my Bubby play with his brand new quilt :-) I do have a few goals, though, in addition to what I just mentioned. I hope to buy the fabric for June Baby Boy - either tomorrow or Sunday. I also hope to get it washed & pressed. Next week will be pretty busy for me too, so I'll have to work quick to get it done.

Thursday's Accomplishments/Friday's Goals

Well, I got some of my list accomplished.
1. I finished piecing Mom's top.
2. Pressed purple & white quilt for Oct. Baby girl.
3. Put purple & white quilt in frame and quilted about 1 1/2 hours.
4. Went to store and picked up batting for next several quilts. (was 50% off!)
5. Also got some safety pins - I just need to spend another $ to save $5 :-).
6. Got backing for Mom's quilt. It's the third time I've purchased this fabric - I can't believe it was still there. I must be the only one that likes it, lol.
7. Laid out batting for mom so it can relax.

Tonight my sewing/quilting plans are:
1. Wash Mom's backing fabric.
2. Baste Mom's quilt.
3. Finish top half of purple & white quilt.
4. Press & cut fabric for July baby boy.

All for now

Quilting Goals 6/21/2007

Here are the quilting goals I have for tonight:
1. Piece and attach mom's outer border.
2. Find batting for mom & July baby boy (unfortunately my sewing area is a mess!) and let air out/relax.
3. Press fabric for July baby boy.
4. Cut fabric for July baby boy.
5. Piece top for July baby boy.
6. Find safety pins so I can baste.
7. Press backing and top for both quilts.
8. Make a shopping list if I can't find enough batting/safety pins

Well, that's quite a bit. I'll have to get moving as soon as I get off work. Whatever I don't get accomplished tonight, I'll do Friday night. I am scheduled to donate platelets, though, so it will depend on how long that takes and how sore my arm is from the needle. I may just have to forget about quilting for Friday and just get ready for my busy, busy weekend. I have to be out at the ball field at 9:15 in the morning to help with the concession stand. I'll be there until about noon. Then I will have about 2 - 2 1/2 hours free time. I'm hoping to run to a quilt store in a nearby city looking for fabric for June Baby Boy since the ones here in town don't have want I want. Then I have to be back at the ball field for my game and to help in the concession stand during the other games. After that I will be heading to see my Bubby :-) (that's my nickname for my nephew). If I can't get fabric Saturday I'll check some of the stores by Bubby on Sunday.

All for now

Current Projects

Here are my current projects I'm working on/planning to start this summer:
1. Baby Quilts Galore!!
We have several babies due in the next several months at church. A boy was born in June with another due in July. Two girls are expected in October while another two babies are due in January. I also have a college friend due in October, but I don't know what she is having yet. I have the fabric for the July baby but can't settle on any fabric for the June boy. I have a quilt that I started and never finished that I will use for one of the October girls and am trying to decide on a pattern/fabric for the other October girl. I haven't even thought yet of the January babies. Wow, 7 baby quilts in 6 months. That will be a record for me, lol. I hope to by the end of June have both boy quilts finished and given away.

2. Family
Since my family will never find this, I'll tell you what I'm making. I'm working on a lap quilt for my mom. I started it sometime last fall. I just need to piece the outer border and attach, baste, quilt, and bind. I will machine quilt it to get it done. I hope to have this for her birthday. For my dad and my uncle I am hoping to make bed quilts. They are sharing a house since the death of my stepmom this past spring. I would like to get a bed quilt done for my dad for something new for his room. These will both be for Christmas presents. I have some small things for my sister - placemats, picture frames that I would like to do.

3. Me
T-shirt quilt from college t-shirts. I ripped out the binding because I did not like it. I have some denim that I will use instead.
Bed quilt. I have the fabric and pattern for a quilt for my bed. Now I just need to do it!

That's all for now

Nephew's Quilt is All Finished.

Wow, it has been a long time since I last posted. I haven't done too much quilting in the past year. I did start several projects, but never finished them. So goes the life of a quilter. The only project I did finish was a baby quilt for my very special nephew. I started it before he was born but because of work put it aside. Well, he's 8 months old now and will be getting his quilt this weekend!!!! I will put a picture up when I get one taken. His quilt is machine pieced and appliqued and hand quilted. The front is 100% cotton while the back is flannel. When I have more time I will list what projects I'm working on and get pictures up, so that's all for now.
