Quick check-in

Top is assembled! I have been stealing time here and there since my last post to finish off the 64 blocks.
Now I just need to decide on a border. I am trying to use up stash so I am somewhat limited. I only have a couple pieces of batik yardage, neither of which is big enough on its own for a border. I do, however, have plenty of 2 1/2" squares and probably about 50 jelly roll strips left from making the frame 9-patches.
Have a great week all!

Friday Sewing

Woo hoo! Another Friday, another night sewing. I got a late start so I didn't get much done. I did however finish the last of the framed 9-patches for my batik quilt and put all the blocks up in a tentative layout.
Then this little cutie insisted it was break time
So hopefully tomorrow I will start putting the blocks together
Have a great night all!

Foursies and Ninesies

I made more progress on my batik quilt.
I just need to make 10 more framed 9-patches. I have plenty of fabric left, so no worries. Here is the stack of 2 1/2" squares
And 8 of the 10 frames. I will need to cut 2 more.
Lastly, my buddy joined me in the basement tonight. She chose the pillows on the loveseat to be tonight's cozy spot.

I probably won't get to sew tomorrow but hope to finish the framed 9-patches sometime this week - maybe some lunch break sewing?
Have a great night all!

Another Friday night

Finally settled on a design for the batik quilt I started a few weeks ago. I am going to make a few more 4-patches and then use some jelly roll strips and other scraps to make framed 9-patches.  I was able to make 3 blocks and put them on the design wall.

Close up of one of the 9-patches

And some of the 2 1/2" squares for the 9-patches.  I have some other scraps to cut so there will be a nice variety.

The frames will be mainly light to medium neutrals. Some will be repeated while others will be pulled from the two jelly rolls I am using.

It's been an exhausting week at work so I am not staying up late sewing tonight. I do hope to do some sewing tomorrow. I need to make 5 more 4-patches and a bunch more 9-patches.  Sunday I will be headed over to my sister's for Mother's Day.

More Friday night sewing

I was able to spend the evening sewing with a quilt shop's "Virtual Friday Night Sew In". I joined them last week as well.  The owner is fantastic and I love when she comes on FB live during the evening.  Here's what I got done:
A baby top flimsy

5 9-patch blocks that I had assembled before I realized I cut them too small 🤦‍♀️
and a pillowcase for a friend that donates them to a couple local groups. I plan to get a few made and then send them to her to add to the pile.
I hope to have time tomorrow to baste the baby quilt and also jump back to the batik project I started recently.

Have a great night all!

A Sew-Sew Saturday

I spent a lot of today sewing - the first Saturday in probably forever.  First up, I made 3 more blocks for my friend's charity project, for a total of 5. I was able to drop them off at the post office so they are headed hee way.

And I finished putting together a design wall. It is 5 garage door insulation panels, taped together, with paint sticks over the seams to stabilize it, and covered by an old flannel sheet. I may need to add a long piece of wood or two as a better stabilizer but this works for now.

I also worked on some 4-patch blocks made of charm squares. A good portion of these came from a pair of charm packs and the rest I cut from my stash.

And look who joined me while I was sewing this evening. She found the winter comforter that I took off the bed a few weeks ago.  She was utterly unhappy when her cozy blankie disappeared that day. 🤣

How was your Saturday?

Another Friday night spent sewing

I was able to sew again this Friday!  Yay, me!

First up - I made 2 blocks for a friend in my FaceBook quilting group.  She is coordinating a charity quilt and requested bright primary colored, kid friendly blocks in this block from the Sewcialites series at Fat Quarter Shop.

I also got the hanging sleeve on the Christmas wallhanging.  I finished the binding earlier in the week.

Have a great night all!

FNSI

Long time no blog. I recently got to thinking about the Friday Night Sew In's I used to participate in and that made me think about my blog. I realized that I haven't posted in over 7 years. A lot has happened in those 7 years. I accepted a new position and moved back to my hometown. I bought a townhouse. My sweet and adorable nephews are now an ornery teen and tween. And I became a dog momma to this little cutie. I foster failed her last year after the pandemic began.

Back to the FNSI - I worked on this cute Christmas wallhanging. The top is a flimsy I purchased off the internet years ago. A few weeks back, I pulled it out, basted it, and quilted the center. Tonight I added some simple quilting in the border and got partway through binding it. I should have time the next few days to finish the binding and add a hanging sleeve - then it will be all ready for next Christmas

Oh, and check out the price on this thread.  It must have been in the stuff I kept after cleaning out my mom's sewing room.
